…so the default profile has been loaded. Ever seen this when logging into your computer?
This can be caused by a few things, but usually viruses and malware are the culprit.
The first thing you’ll need to do is boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
Then type these commands:
- net user randomname /add
- net localgroup administrators /add randomname
- shutdown /r
Note that ‘randomname’ can be anything you desire.
Now in about a minute the computer will restart. When it finishes booting up you can select the randomname account to regain full access to your computer. All of your files and folders will be listed under your failed account.
Now, you’ll need to:
- Move the data that is in the old user directory back over to this newly created user account.
- Delete the old account.
- Rename this new account to your old accounts name. (This step is optional.)
- And finally, scan the computer for malware and viruses before the final reboot.
A repair shop can move the data and scan for malware much more safely and reliably than a home user, with paid-for tools and custom built apps.
Cheers!
